Do #1
Figure out what your feed will be about.
If you’re a business owner, it’s always cute to post pics of your little ones doing what you might consider amazing things. You may even get lots of likes, but posting pictures of your kids who may actually be adorable isn’t the goal of your business feed. Create a separate account that distinguishes your business from your hobbies or family life.
Do #2
Plan ahead of time what you want to say.
Life gets busy and it gets busy fast. It’s always a good idea to plan ahead what you’re going to post at least a good month in advance. This way if anything comes up in the news or a trending topic occurs you can always post on the spot in between scheduled posts. A few cool tools that allows you to schedule Instagram posts are Buffer and Hootsuite. Check them out!
Do #3
Beauty is in the eye of the follower.
Make sure the photos that you post are clear and eye catching. Today’s smartphone camera has come a long way. You’re able to achieve a great photo without being a professional photographer. Get your angle right and make sure your lighting is obvious. There are also filters that can assist with setting the mood such as SNAPSEED.
Do #4
All things are not created equal.
Instagram is not Facebook. It’s different. Instagram is not Twitter. It’s different. Instagram is not Pinterest. It’s different. Instagram is not Snapchat. It’s different. Instagram possess its own unique strategy for gaining awareness and one should treat it as such. Instagram speaks in hashtags, original content, and building two way relationships. Decide early on if Instagram is the place where your company should spend a large amount of time.
