EP 10: 5 Questions Only with Dr. Jimani Mwendo

Dr. Jimani Mwendo was born and raised in New Orleans, LA where she grew up in a family of artists and intellectuals.  Since she was young her mom would expose her to different aesthetics and art forms such as various types of music, visual art and culinary art.  While continuing to use the arts as outlet of expression, she was developing an interest in science and decided to attend a high school that specialized in science and mathematics.  After high school, she attended Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she was immediately embraced and guided with love, support to a career in the field of dentistry.  She was directed to different dentists in the city where she could shadow them and get to know the behind the scenes of a dental office.  At this point, a strong affinity to dentistry formed.  She found the perfect place where the beauty of art meets the intellect of science.  Dentists use their hands to express creativity and the science behind it all is phenomenal.  The idea of finally having both was her motivation that got her through graduating Spelman with Honors, matriculating on to University of North Carolina Chapel Hill School of Dentistry where she remained on the Dean’s List until graduating with Honors with Distinction and then being accepted into a highly competitive General Practice Residency at the VA Hospital in Washington, DC where she learned to treat highly complex medically compromised patients.

Dr. Jimani has been practicing dentistry for almost 10 years and has focused her practice on three phases obtaining health, alignment/function and brighten/contour. Dr. Jimani is happily married with two small children 2 years old and 8 months old.  Currently, she is taking a year off maternity leave to be with her little ones and reset for the future.  She recently moved across the country from the Washington, DC area, where she was an immensely successful dentist, back to New Orleans so that her kids can grow up around their family and her family can be supported and loved.  There are plans in place for her starting her a practice in New Orleans and she is excited to bring this level and quality of dentistry to New Orleans.Follow her on instagram @drjimani
